Frequently asked questions
Does DeckSync require an internet connection?
No. DeckSync works with no internet. Devices find each other and sync over the Wi-Fi network they share, or directly device to device when there is no network.
How many iPads can follow a single presenter?
Designed for meeting rooms: a presenter and up to five viewers. Pre-load the deck on each device for the fastest start.
Does every attendee need a subscription?
No. Only the presenter subscribes. Viewers download DeckSync and join free, with no account and no trial to start.
What file formats does DeckSync support?
PDF only. PowerPoint and other slide formats must be converted to PDF before being loaded into DeckSync.
What data does DeckSync collect?
None. DeckSync has zero third-party SDKs, zero analytics, and zero crash reporting services. It makes no outbound network requests of its own. The only two exceptions are entirely in your hands: your App Store subscription, handled by Apple, and a diagnostic log if you ever choose to email one to support from Settings. See the privacy policy for what a log does and doesn't contain.
Is the device-to-device connection encrypted?
Sessions with a PIN are encrypted with a key derived from the PIN, so devices that don't know it can't read the deck. Sessions without a PIN are open to anyone with DeckSync on the same network, and the app says so when you start one.
Which devices can join?
iPad and iPhone on iPadOS or iOS 26.3 or later, all running DeckSync 1.2 or later. DeckSync 1.2 can't connect to earlier versions. For six months after the 1.2 release, devices on 1.1 are told an update is needed.
What happens to the deck after the presentation?
The current version of DeckSync is designed with the expectation that you own all the presentation devices. As such, the deck stays on the viewer devices after the presentation. Joining as a viewer is free and needs no subscription. Automatic removal of decks after a session is on the roadmap.
